Choose a useful skill
Mining and Woodcutting help with building. Farming helps with food. You can train all seven skills; this is not a permanent class choice. Cooking is no longer an active skill.

Read its guide
Open /skills, choose a skill and read its training cards. Use the skill's HUD control if you want to track it while playing.

Buy a tool upgrade
Open the skill's tool card. Current tier levels are 1, 20, 40, 65 and 99, with no extra action requirement in the current preset. Buy tiers in order and bring the listed Larks and items. The card shows your exact requirements.

If asked, claim your one-time welcome supplies at a Gold crate before buying the first tool. Tool names do not imply a special ability: read the actual enchantments and any listed ability.
