Find Wilderness where building is allowed.
Town protection may prevent gathering.
Use naturally occurring resources for training.

Try a Small Batch
Break a few stone blocks, then inspect Mining.
If progress stays unchanged, check What Counts before repeating the task.
Placed blocks do not award Mining XP.

Follow the Objective
First Thread asks for 32 credited resources.
Stone, ore, logs and supported mature crops can contribute.
Accept the opening quest when it becomes available.
